Using automated fiber placement technology for the production of thermoplastic parts has undergone significant improvement. As AFP/ATP technology is used in the production of complex parts, we show how different compaction roller designs, when combined with other parameters of the AFP process can affect the final quality of the thermoplastic composite not only on voids percentage but also on mechanical properties. Combined with the right quality of prepregs, they enable fast, automated processing of high-quality composites.
